We have to keep learning. It doesn’t matter if it’s in Art, Baseball or in Life, in order to grow, to improve, it is necessary to try “New Techniques”.
This photo shows by first attempt at sketching a Baseball game in progress, without the use of photo reference. I completed this entire process in the time frame of just over an inning (10 – 15 minutes). The figure is actually a composite of 6 or 7 batters. I used pencil, Faber Castell markers and pastels. The photo of me sketching was taken by me, sketching with my right hand, and taking the photo with my left.
My plan is to try this again at next weeks scheduled game of the Colorado Vintage Base Ball Association. If that goes well, I’ll be trying it at Coors Field in the near future.
