2015 ~ Chalk Art, Year End Review

December 15, 2015

2015ChalkArtReview

2015 ~ A review of my Chalk & Live Art during the past year. All I can say is WOW!!! When 2015 started I was faced with some personal conflict and adversity, and I wasn’t even sure I would continue with this medium. But with guidance from above and the support of some excellent friends, continue I did. And I think thats been a good thing.

Those who partnered with me, believed in me, and supported me this past year and helped make 2015 the success it was were (in no special order): Christine Blackburn, Michael Rieger, Eric Matelski, Randy Segura, Naomi Haverland, Mark Hollenbeck, Jessie Banister Yancey, Elizabeth Kurtak, Sherri Cole, Lauri Endries, Rhonda Mullins, Jennifer Mosquera, Beverly Coleman, Tim Hurley, Macy Pinkussohn, Deb Radman, the Georgetown Loop Railroad, Carrie Diehl, Angela Hottinger, Jenny Colpitts Wilczewski, the artist committee for the Denver Chalk Art Festival, and the Three Wisemen Steven Burdick, Dan Steiner & Larry Renoe.

2015 was a very successful year. Probably the most prestigious event was being awarded my second Emmy, for the work Michael Rieger, Randy Segura and I did for the 2014 Denver Arts Week promotion. Another biggie for me was when Naomi Haverland incorporated me into her Chalk Art for the Buffalo Bill Daze event hosted by the Georgetown Loop Railroad. Seeing her artwork that weekend is a memory I will always cherish. And speaking of the Georgetown Loop Railroad, how cool is it that they let me add Chalk Art to their new event.

I also was able to incorporate the chalk/pastels into some other events and opportunities that were new for me. I have started incorporating the use of pastels with other mediums, sometimes at live performance events. I was able to complete an 8’ x 12’ mural with pastels in front of several hundred people for the University of Southern California. Upon completion I stood back and asked myself, “Wow, who did that?” A very surreal feeling to say the least. And then just a month ago I had the opportunity to do a piece of chalk art, “live”, during a church service. A very humbling experience.

So it is with great anticipation I that I look forward to 2016. There will be more and larger events, I am scheduling already. I am working on the “Chalk Wagon”, you will have to wait and see. And I will be exploring the use and mixing of chalk/pastels with other mediums, in new and different methods for me. Maybe if I am lucky it will be new to all of us.

Thank you all for your continued support. And thank you God!

I believe all artists & photographers to be historians. Whether it be in recapturing a moment in time or documenting a current event, what we create and leave behind will someday be a record of history.
